A gleam is a flash of light, the moment something valuable becomes visible.
Built inside the technology transfer office
Gleam Innovation is a principal-led commercialization practice. We help universities, federal laboratories and technology companies turn research into licensed products, new ventures and lasting industry partnerships.
The practice grew out of two decades of consulting inside federal technology transfer offices. Over and over, promising inventions sat waiting for a partner who never heard about them. The researchers and licensing staff closest to the work rarely have the hours to go find that partner. Gleam does that work for them.
The name comes from the Japanese word hikari (光), light: bringing inventions out of the lab and into view of the companies that can use them.
Who you'll work with
Adil Anis
Founder & PrincipalWhen you hire Gleam, you work with Adil, from the first call to the signed agreement. He scopes every engagement and does the work himself, so nothing gets lost in a handoff.
Adil has spent more than 20 years supporting federal R&D programs. He started in systems engineering and cybersecurity on NASA support contracts while also working on the agency's technology transfer and SBIR/STTR programs. That mix of technical depth and hands-on commercialization has shaped his work ever since.
At NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, he worked as a senior commercialization engineer and later as a project manager. He evaluated hundreds of inventions a year, ran targeted marketing campaigns and licensed technologies to industry.
At the Federal Highway Administration's Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, he built tools to find and share new innovations, led workshops and set up invention disclosure and licensing processes. At the FDA's White Oak campus, he supported licensing, collaboration outreach and the growth of the agency's partnership operations.
He started Gleam to put that experience to work for any office or company trying to get research into use. Much of what makes commercialization work has long been kept behind paywalls and proprietary playbooks, so Adil publishes what he’s learned openly at xfer.tech: practical guides, templates and lessons from the field for licensing officers, researchers and entrepreneurs. Use them on your own, and when you’d like an experienced hand, he’s here.
What we value
Rigor
Every recommendation comes with the evidence behind it. We do the technical and market homework, and we show our work.
Candor
We tell you what the market tells us, even when it isn't what you hoped to hear.
Openness
Commercialization works better when the know-how is shared, so we give our playbooks away at xfer.tech.
Impact
A signed license is a milestone, not the finish line. Success is a technology people actually use.
